Uganda is set to join the rest of the world to celebrate the United Nations world Environment Day.
World Environment Day is commemorated annually on June 5th by all countries of the United Nations to encourage worldwide awareness and action for the environment.
According to the Executive Director National Environment Management Authority Dr. Barirega Akankwasah, this year, Uganda is set to commemorate world Environment day under theme “Land Restoration for Climate Resilience.”
“Uganda has over the years lost its forest cover and the Government is doing everything possible to restore our nature. We have therefore to prioritize land restoration to improve our climate resilience,” he said.
Dr. Barirega Akankwasah retaliated the need for the Nation to embrace current environment challenges comprised of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.
This year’s National celebrations are being held in the eastern district of Sironko in easternUganda.
