Over 2 million pilgrims from East Africa converged in Namugongo, Uganda on Monday to celebrate the Uganda Martyrs Day in memory of the Christian and Muslim believers who were executed on the orders of former Buganda Kingdom King Mwanga between 1885 to 1887.The majority of Uganda pilgrims trekked on foot from their respective districts hundreds of kilometers away from the Martyrs shrine, near capital Kampala. The function at the Catholic shrine was presided over by President Yoweri Museveni while the Anglican shrine had the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among as the chief guest.
